Dee Dee Dillion
Sometimes the voice of
experience is the voice of a child.
If one must have truly endured and survived in order to sing country
music, to communicate the joys and sorrows of life to an audience
that knows authenticity better than any other - if you have to
live the songs - then Dee Dee Dillon, at the tender age
of 14, is uniquely qualified to sing her way into the hearts of
country music fans.
Dee Dee's childhood was filled with the kind of tragedy most
adults will never know - her early years marked by physical and
mental abuse that has made that smile on her face and the song on
her lips even more
remarkable.
The pain in her life has made her stronger, steering her
determination to share with the world her message and her music.
That is precisely what she has done. Dee Dee has opened shows
for Wynona Judd, Tracy Lawrence, Aaron Tippin and many others,
entertaining crowds of 40,000 or more. She has performed with Billy
Ray Cyrus and Shania Twain - appropriately enough, since her sassy
spirit and vital energy on stage are already earning comparisons to
Shania. She has won the Star Search competition in her home
state of West Virginia, and in the last two years has become a
staple at Nashville's legendary Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.
Nonetheless, she's still a model teenager - back home in Logan
County, West Virginia, this honor student, cheerleader and track star has missed a
mere six days of school while keeping up a hectic schedule and
traveling thousands of miles to perform. She has earned awards for swimming,
running and (of course) singing, and even won beauty contests. (And
she's not a gal to be messed with - Dee Dee has competed in
over 40 karate championships, and holds a Black Belt in the Chun Kuk
Do discipline.)
She has also proven herself a mature young lady who understands the
importance of using her gifts to better the world in which she is
growing up. Dee Dee is a spokesperson for the National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children and has donated her services to a
variety of other charities.
Perhaps a story from her father says it best. He recalls that during
one of her frequent backstage visits to the Grand Ole Opry, she was
watching Lorrie Morgan sing from center stage - the legendary circle
of wood taken from the original Ryman Auditorium. "How many feet is
it from here to there?" she asked him. He replied that he figured
the distance to be about 25 feet. "Dad," she said, "That's going to
be the longest 25 feet I'll ever walk. But one of these days, I'm
going to sing on the Grand Ole Opry. Its just a matter of time."
The distance may be shorter, and the time may come sooner, than even
she knows. Listen to Dee Dee Dillon's first single --"Perfect!"
